During a comprehensive eye exam , your doctor is not only checking for the commonly known conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration, but also looking for other conditions which may potentially affect a your vision or overall eye health. Some of the most common medical eye problems are outlined in this section for you.

The eyes can show signs of many conditions that affect the whole body, like diabetes and allergies. When going in for an eye exam, it’s important to be prepared with information about your medical and eye history that your doctor may need, such as:

  • Questions your have about you eyes or vision
  • History of eye injury as a child or adult
  • Name of all medications, including non-prescription, over-the-counter and herbal
  • Homeopathic, vitamins, patches, shots, etc.
  • Medical conditions being treated or monitored by your other doctors
  • Past and pending surgeries of the eyes or body
  • Name of your primary care or specialty doctors
